Brainboxes, through a strategic partnership with IBM, have secured further orders for supplying 2000 PCI 3 Port RS232 serial cards to Spanish bank group La Caixa. The deal, worth in the region of $500,000, follows Brain Boxes successful fulfilment of an initial order for 18,000 cards.

IBM Spain announced that they had secured a deal with La Caixa, one of Europe’s largest banks, to completely refit their computer systems in November of last year. IBM’s specification of Brainboxes unique 3 port RS232 cards as part of the package upgrade was instrumental in their securing the business. Stephen Evans, Brain Boxes Marketing Manager explains: “We have been working with IBM for some time now, and some of our products are graded as ‘strategic options’ which means that they are automatically included in their bids for work like this one.

“The card was designed and developed specifically to allow a PC to operate a up to 4 different tools simultaneously – three as standard with the optional upgrade to four where necessary.”

La Caixa needed a system that allowed their staff to connect their PC’s with a number of peripherals such as cash draws and cheque readers, and printers simultaneously. The cards will be fitted to PC’s used in La Caixa banks across Spain.

Stephen Evans concludes: “Brain Boxes’ continued forays into the world market through strategic partnerships such as this one are affirmation that we are being recognised as a reliable supplier of very durable and functional technology. We fully expect that we will see more and more international deals and partnerships being forged over the coming year.”
