Brainboxes and The WEEE Regulations

The WEEE Regulations came into force on 1st July 2007, along with the introduction of the producer's obligations. The purpose of these regulations is to encourage the disposal of Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE) in an environmentally friendly way.

Customer Responsibilities

You are encouraged to dispose of WEEE in an environmentally friendly way.

This can be done through your local civic amenities site, an approved treatment facility or alternatively through a relevant compliance scheme.

Brainboxes’ Responsibilities

Brainboxes has a legal responsibility, as producer, to provide a free of charge collection service to our customers for our obligated WEEE.

Brainboxes is defined as a producer under the WEEE Regulations because we sell own brand Electrical & Electronic Equipment (EEE) in the UK. Our WEEE Producer Registration Number is WEE/AH0004XR. For a copy of our Certificate, click here.

Obligated WEEE

This is defined as Brainboxes branded EEE which is marked with a crossed wheelie bin and date bar, falling within the scope of the regulation. In practice, this includes our add-on products such as Bluetooth devices, PCMCIA cards and external cables.

Other Producers' Obligated WEEE

This is WEEE that other producers have a legal obligation to collect under the WEEE Regulations.

Non-obligated WEEE

This is WEEE that falls outside the scope of the regulation, or:

Where Brainboxes has made a commercial agreement that the purchaser will accept responsibility for disposal at end of life. As our products only operate within a larger device such as a PC, it normally makes sense commercially and environmentally for our products to be disposed of together with the larger device.

Brainboxes WEEE Recovery Service

For our WEEE recovery service options, please email for details.

Brainboxes is now working in partnership with WeeeCare Compliance Scheme which is operated by WasteCare.

WasteCare has national coverage and is able to collect, recycle or dispose of, in an environmentally sound way, our obligated WEEE.

The WeeeCare scheme have been a national waste management company for 25 years and have 10 years experience in recycling WEEE.

WasteCare are authorised waste carriers and operate their own fleet of WEEE collection vehicles with carriage systems to prevent damage to equipment in order to promote re-use.

National coverage is supported by 9 licensed waste transfer stations and a treatment and recycling facility in Leeds which has a capacity of 25,000 tonnes of WEEE per year.

WasteCare are also in the process of implementing a further treatment and recycling facility on our doorstep in Widnes, Merseyside - this facility will have the capacity in excess of 50,000 tonnes of WEEE per year, and will enable our obligated WEEE to be recycled with the shortest possible transportation.
